OUR APPROACH TO DECK BUILDS
Custom Decks Built for the Ontario Outdoors
A well-built deck extends your living space beyond the walls of your home. It's a place to relax, entertain and make the most of your outdoor space. Whether it's a simple platform or a fully custom design, the right deck should feel like a natural extension of your home.
At GrayJay Renovations, we focus on building decks that are solid, level and built to last. Proper structure, quality materials and attention to detail are key, especially in our climate. From layout to finishing touches, every deck is built with durability and long-term use in mind. The result is an outdoor space that not only looks great, but performs season after season and becomes a go-to spot for everyday living.
MATERIALS & OPTIONS
The Right Material for Your Space
We work with a wide range of materials to suit your style, budget and maintenance preferences, from pressure-treated lumber to cedar and low-maintenance composite decking. Each option has its own advantages, and we'll help you choose what makes the most sense for your space and how you plan to use it. We also build custom privacy screens and fences to complete the space, giving you a backyard that feels finished, functional and built around how you want to live outdoors.

Deck Build FAQ
-
In Ontario, the ground freezes deep in the winter. If your posts are shallow, the frost will push them up and ruin your deck. We dig footings to at least four feet deep to reach solid, unfrozen soil. This keeps your deck level and steady for many years.
-
Modern composite materials are designed to stay cooler than older plastic boards. However, dark colors will still soak up the heat on a July afternoon. We suggest lighter tan or grey colors for decks that get full sun all day. This keeps the surface comfortable for your bare feet.
-
A pressure-treated or cedar deck usually needs a fresh coat of sealer every two years. This protects the wood from the harsh Ontario sun and heavy snow. If the water stops beading on the surface, it is time for a new coat.
